(the following was written following Snellville Christian Church's first visit to Turkana, in 2003)

Dear Friends,

I wanted to write and thank you for your prayers and support for my recent short-term missions trip to Kenya. What a wonderful time of learning and encouragement we had!

Kip Lines met us in Nairobi at the airport, flying with us from Nairobi to Lodwar Kenya. After visiting some fellow CMF missionaries in Lodwar, we began the 3-hour drive to Loupwala. The desert there seems to go on forever, and is only accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles. There are no paved, or even permanent roads. We saw people walking, and wondered where they had come from, and where they were going. Kip explained that the Turkana in Northern Kenya walk for miles daily to obtain fresh water, carrying it back to their homes. It was not uncommon to see a Turkana lady with a 5-gallon bucket of water on her head. In the middle of what appears to be nowhere. There were goat herds generally closer to the riverbeds. Most of the these river beds were dry; but the Turkana dig down just a few feet to find water, for watering their livestock, and dipping water out to drink or fill containers.
