For two and a half weeks things got a little more difficult than usual in Turkana. The only paved road from Kenya (the rest of) to Turkana was closed because of a bridge that washed out just south of the border town of Kainuk. No transport vehicles led to higher prices for the commodities that still existed in Lodwar. Diesel reached 100/- per liter ($5.71 per gallon) and some basic food staples became hard to find.
It wouldn’t have been so bad had it not also been the time when our family was packing up and planning to drive south to leave for furlough. Our plans were to pack our truck full of all our stuff and head to Eldoret for some more packing; then on to Nairobi.
But it was not possible.
After lots of talking and praying we were able to find a Mission Aviation Fellowship plane that was heading to Nairobi from Sudan. When MAF heard about our situation, they diverted their plane to Lodwar, picked us up with all our stuff, dropped us off in Eldoret and carried all of our luggage on to Nairobi. They also decided that they didn’t need to charge us for the cargo.
We left Lodwar at 9am on the day we had originally planned to leave. Instead of a 9 hour drive, we were in Eldoret by 10:30 AM.
When we arrived in Nairobi this week we found all of our luggage neatly stacked in their storage room.
We couldn’t have planned it any better. Thanks for remembering us in your prayers!
Please pray for Turkana District… even when the roads are passable the price of goods is always higher then the rest of Turkana because of the distance and broken state of the roads. In the poorest district of Kenya the prices are the highest! Pray for the government to do its job of repairing old roads and building new ones. The funds are there… please pray!
